Caring for Our Community

Only three years ago, UTS and the UTS Parents’ Association (UTSPA) hosted the first Welcome Back event during the first week of school. The Welcome Back Social has become a much-loved UTS tradition, a chance for our community to gather informally at the beginning of the school year, reminding ourselves that human connection lies at the heart of our school.

At this year’s gathering, it was wonderful to see everyone enjoying good conversation, great food and fun, set against a backdrop of lively jazz performances and exhilarating Taiko drumming. A photo booth and friendly (but gently competitive) games of ping pong added to the delight.

Thank you to UTSPA and this year’s Co-presidents Xuping Zhang and Sarah Notton for the vital role the organization plays in our school. The dedication and hard work of our parent volunteers is astounding. Thank you also to the UTS Office of Advancement who played an important part in making the Welcome Back Social a success.

This week, many parents came to drop off their children for grade-wide trips to Camps Couchiching, Kandalore and Cedar Ridge, the latest opportunity for Experiential Outdoor Education at UTS and a tradition that creates some of our students’ most cherished memories. While dropping off their students, many parents stayed for Coffee Mornings, providing another opportunity to meet UTS staff and other parents.

The time we share together matters. Our school’s mission is to ignite the brightest minds to make a difference in the world. But making a difference only becomes possible when we grow together as a community.

We look forward to the coming year and the new memories that will be created as we challenge ourselves and each other to grow in both learning and care. Together, we can make this an exceptional year for our students and our school!
